- Go to google.com/alerts.
- Enter a Search Query.
This is the phrase you want to be alerted to.
- Result Type: Everything
For most everyone, selecting Everything is recommended. However, you may have your own reasons for only wanting to be alerted to only News or Video.
- How Often: As It Happens
If you don't expect many results for your search query, or if it's particularly important, you probably want to select As It Happens. However, if your search query will find a lot of results every day, then you may only want a Once a Day or Once a Week report so that you're not constantly getting alert emails.
- How Many: All Results
You may want to select Only the Best if your alerts are including a lot of results that you don't particularly need. use the search preview box to the right to see the differences in results when switching between the two options here.
- Deliver to: your email address
By default, your alerts will be emailed to you. The Feed option here is for advanced users who use an RSS feed reader such as The Old Reader, Feedly, etc.
- Click the red Create Alert button.
You can also click the Manage Your Alerts button to edit or delete your alerts.
